先日新潟三条市にある、アウトドア用品で有名なスノーピーク本社へ見学に行ってきた。
本社は2011年に、元々本社のあった市街から少し離れた社が運営するレンタルキャンプサイト内に建てられている。
オフィスはフリーアドレス制といって、決まった机を持たずに遊牧民のようにその日の気分や仕事の状況によって自由な場所で仕事ができるオープンな環境になっており、アイディアに行き詰ったら広いキャンプサイトに出るもよし、オフィスに隣接する中庭で仕事をしたってよいことになっている。
開発中の製品はキャンプサイトですぐに試せるし、テントのテストのために一晩泊まったりすることもあるそう。
ただ通常であれば内線で呼び出せる社員が、フリーアドレス制の為にどこに居るのかがわからず、時にキャンプサイトまで探しに行くこともあるのが唯一難点ですね、と社屋を案内してくれた女性の社員はとても素朴に、かつ会社への愛情たっぷりに笑顔で語ってくれた。
キャンプサイトは360度景色が広がっているため、「さぞ夕焼けがきれいでしょうね」と私が言うと、「夕焼けもきれいですが、その夕焼けが社屋に反射してもっときれいなんですよ！」と嬉しそうに語ってくれた。
「社員のために」と口にする経営者は多いであろうが、ここはそれを物理的な会社のあり様によって表現している。
社員はとても楽しいだろうし、それが会社全体から伝わってきた。
この日はあいにく時間がなかったが、次回はここのキャンプサイトでどっぷりと一晩過ごしたいと思う。

The other day, I went to Sanjo, Niigata to visit the head quarter of “Snow Peak”, well known as the outdoor equipment manufacturer.
The HQ built in 2011 at the middle of the campsite running by the company, which is bit away from the city center where the former HQ was.
Office space of it is managing with “free address system”. There is no fixed desk for any of employee, they can sit and work where ever they want according to one’s mood or the project situation.
They can even work in the campsite, or in the court yard next to the office.
Since the products under development can be examine in the campsite immediately, some employees stay overnight in the campsite to examine their tent products.
“The only problem we have with this free address system is hard to find where the specific employee is.” The lady who introduce us to the head quarter told me with smiling, and I found love to the company behind the simple smile.
When we were in the campfield, I said to her, “It must be really beautiful when the sun sets since there is nothing to cut off the view 360 degrees!”
But she said with the smile, “It is, but the sunset reflecting in the glass of the building is much beautiful!”
There are many executive of the company who say “We respect the happiness of the employee”, but this company representing it without any word but with its physical posture.
The employeeｓ must be happy and I could feel it throughout the visit.
I couldn’t take my time to visit in deep this time, but I’ll spend overnight in the campsite next time and enjoy it throughly!
